It's funny how your mind was engulfed by uncertainty about whether the subject of this passage is about being in front of an audience or to be alive, but it's more abysmal than that. But, who has ever experienced occhiolism when it comes to life?
Have you ever took a moment to ask yourself why are you here? Why are you still alive while no week reach its 7th day without witnessing families going through a bereavement, or a funeral taking place? Is it because you're more powerful, holier, intelligent or wiser than the deceased and their families?
Have you ever asked yourself what does it mean for you to still be offered a chance to have a full 24 hours? Is it because The Creator still wants you to work, eat, buy and be sheep for a few more years because you're the sheep that offers your European capitalist master and the government more wool?
Scrutinize the odyssey of your life from the moment you exited the womb with the placenta, to date...are you satisfied with how you have walked through all this journey? Does it fill your heart with pride? Do you feel you have lived your best life? Are you a virgin of regrets? Have you ever took a moment to scrutinize your purpose on this earth? Do you feel you have affected as many lives, positively, as you were supposed to?
We've all been to a live concert or a gabfest. If not, then you must've been living in a cave or you must be the worst introvert to have lived, but that's not the point. Have you seen how a live concert is so different compared to a song you've downloaded from iTunes or from the internet, and how a gabfest is different from a motion picture or a show you've recorded on your PVR whereby you can pause, rewind and stop or change whenever you feel your optic and auditory tools have had enough?
Musicians have no chance to pause or rewind when it comes to live performances, news anchors don't have time to pause or cut and dispose of the faulty scene where they've mispelled a word. Their livelihoods depend on their performances. One mistake everything is stained, which is not what the public is expecting from the observed objects.
Now, imagine if it was you in front of an audience who have paid their hard earned money not just to see you, but also because they're expecting a world-class performance. What do you do? Do you postpone because your anxiety has engulfed your mind? Think of the money spent on hiring the venue, the band, sound system, the engineers that are in charge, and all the expenses that were paid to set up the stage and make sure that the concert commences.
Life is consanguineous to a live performance. You can't pause, rewind or be oblivious to ubiquitous observers and critics. You cannot recycle chances not taken, words not spoken, time wasted and love that wasn't fully expressed. What's gone is gone! If time is only going forward, then why do we constantly allow our fears and anxiety to hold us back? Why do we procrastinate when time keeps moving? Why do we still neglect the value of time even though we all know well that no one knows their final seconds of living?
So many people waste their lives complaining about their problems, the government, inflation, the economy, even about things they should be changing. Smile often, and laugh a bit. Everybody has their own shitload of problems. Someone out there is blind and deaf, some devout Christian out there has only two children, let alone those children being a gay son and a lesbian daughter, respectively-Chances of being a grandparent in such a situation are thinner than the consumers of crackers.
You, on the other hand are given a chance to be great despite your mental illness, poverty or whatever obstacle the general population use as an excuse to not achieve their goals or dreams. Excuses and complaints are a failure's best friend, defense mechanism or a querencia if you may.
Every humanbeing is given obstacles, Bill Gates, Aliko Dangote, Brenda Fassie, Bonginkosi Dlamini, Sibusiso Leope and all the people we deem legends or successful had their own obstacles before they got to achieve their dreams, even worse they had much bigger problems after getting the fame and fortune.
You think your life sucks because you live in a shack, you barely have food to eat, and nobody seems to care. Ask a celebrity how it feels to have people constantly scrutinizing every move you make, including farting or scratching your scrotum when it's itchy. The truth is, nobody has a better life than others, the fact that you're also given a chance to be a citizen of planet earth, it means more than Aliko Dangote's nett worth.
Being alive means you're given a chance to be great, a chance to create a sempiternally prevalent legacy for the generations that will come after you. That responsibility, if embraced and acted upon accordingly it can alter your life for the better. The first rule of life is to live.
Live, be in the now while preparing for the next but without worrying about what the next day will offer. Live your life and your sole attention should be projected to your life and no one else's, the only time you should look at other people's lives is when you look for inspiration or ways to help those people, if needs be.
Live! Not too many people who are alive do...
